History of the Club

The first meeting of the Club was on February 3rd, 1976.  Four local people got together informally in a room at the Royal Exchange in Walsall Wood.

Between them they started the Club and arranged meetings, Competitions and trips.  After a few months, other members joined and the Club flourished.

In its first year, the Clubs members decided on the aims of the Club:

  1. To promote and encourage all aspects of photography.
  2. To encourage beginners to learn and practise the methods and techniques of photography and expand their interest.
  3. To provide a friendly atmosphere in which discussion and constructive criticism may take place about members  photographs.

The Club has come a long way since those early days.  We now have a much more varied programme of events, our finances are sound and we have changed our meeting place.  But we are still a small, friendly informal club.  Most importantly our aims remain the same.

In February, 2001 we celebrate our Silver Jubilee.  Much has changed over the past 25 years..

The cost of photography, relatively speaking, has fallen.  The technology of photography has improved, with more automatic features on cameras sharper lenses, clearer films, brighter colours, digital cameras and computer enhancement of images.  We live in exciting times and we look forward to seeing what the future may hold for us.

Who knows what new developments the next 25 years will bring.  Rest assured, we will always welcome new ideas if they help our photography.
